This webinar was recorded on 7th December 2022 and is part of a series of 5 webinars brought to you by BASL in collaboration with the BSG Liver section. In this series, we discuss different elements of the management of those with alcohol use disorders and how alcohol use disorders impact patients at different stages in life.  This will include the impact of prenatal and parental alcohol-use disorder, dual mental health and AUD diagnoses, the optimal management of alcohol-related hepatitis, the synergy between alcohol and metabolic risk factors through to the impact on extra-hepatic health and cancer risk.

Key learning objectives

  • Provide an understanding of risks and sequelae of harmful and dependent alcohol use in pregnancy
  • Understand the impact and prevalence of foetal alcohol spectrum disorder in the UK
  • Understand how it is diagnosed and how it overlaps with other developmental childhood issues
  • Consider the wider impact of parental alcohol-used disorder on children and families
  • Provide some guidance on how to prevent these issues occurring, in the first place
