This webinar was recorded on 11th January 2023 and is part of a series of 5 webinars brought to you by BASL in collaboration with the BSG Liver section. In this series, we will discuss different elements of the management of those with alcohol use disorders and how alcohol use disorders impact patients at different stages in life. This will include the impact of prenatal and parental alcohol-use disorder, dual mental health and AUD diagnoses, the optimal management of alcohol-related hepatitis, the synergy between alcohol and metabolic risk factors through to the impact on extra-hepatic health and cancer risk.
Key learning objectives
- Understand which mental health diagnoses commonly co-exist with AUD (e.g., anxiety, depression, PTSD, and others)
- Consider how co-existing mental health disorders should be treated, in the presence of AUD and the role of specialist mental health, alcohol treatment and community services
- Understand whether different pharmacological interventions are required for medically assisted withdrawal and/or relapse prevention in the presence of co-occurring mental health diagnoses
- Explore how mental capacity can be assessed and managed, in this context
