Introduction
The interim results of the UK 2022 acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) audit demonstrate significant improvements in clinical care and organisational practices since the last audit in 2007. The findings shed light on the management, organisational capabilities, and transfusion practices in UK hospitals, indicating potential improvements in patient outcomes. The final audit report, including details on organisational and training resources, is expected to be released in the coming months.

Biographies
Dr Gaurav Nigam
Dr Gaurav Nigam is a gastroenterology trainee in the Thames Valley (Oxford) deanery. He is currently pursuing an NIHR-funded doctoral research fellowship that focuses on the use of machine learning-based risk prediction tools in gastrointestinal bleeding. He has been the clinical lead for carrying out the 2022 UK acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding audit, which was supported by the British Society of Gastroenterology and NHS Blood and Transplant.
Prof Adrian Stanley
After graduating from Edinburgh in 1988, Prof Stanley trained in Edinburgh, New Zealand, Australia and London, and completed his MD thesis in 1998. He was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1999 and Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow in 2018.
He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and several book chapters to date, and has co-authored several national and international guidelines in the fields of GI bleeding and Hepatology. He is Director of the annual Glasgow-Gastro Conference and is on the organising committee of several other major educational meetings. He has performed live endoscopy at several UK and international educational events.
Prof Stanley was elected Vice-President (Medical) of the RCPSG (2019-22). He was a founder member of the BSG International committee and the RCPSG Global health group, and is involved in a Gastroenterology training project in Malawi (2012-present). He was appointed Secretary of the BSG (2019-21) and Senior Secretary (2021-23) and was elected President of the Scottish Society of Gastroenterology (2022-24).
