BSG Hepatology Travelling Fellowship – EASL and Experience at a DGH Hepatology Unit
Background
This fellowship aims to offer the opportunity for two junior trainees (IMT1, 2, 3 or ST4) who have yet to obtain an NTN, but have an interest in hepatology, to attend the EASL Congress in Amsterdam from 7 - 10 May 2025, to see the latest research and clinical updates in Hepatology. There will also be an opportunity to spend a week at a Hepatology-active DGH of your choice from an agreed list, across the UK. This will be an excellent opportunity to observe busy day to day clinical hepatology practice in the UK. Successful applicants are strongly encouraged to visit a hospital outside of their deanery.
Award
Awards of up to £2,500 will be made to successful applicants to cover accommodation, travel and associated expenses to attend the EASL Congress and the one-week fellowship.
Conditions
Candidates must be an active BSG Taster or Trainee member of at least three months standing at the time of application.
Candidates must be in their IMT 1, 2, 3 or ST4 training years and demonstrate a commitment to furthering their understanding of what a career in hepatology involves.
Applicants must be able to travel to the Netherlands (i.e. be a British passport holder, or hold an appropriate visa).
Successful candidates must submit a report of their fellowship following their return, which will be published on the BSG website.
Application Process and Timeline
The application window will open on 6th January 2025. Applications will be by way of CV, motivational statement and letter of support from an Educational Supervisor. The application window will close at midnight on 26th January 2025.
Applications will be reviewed by the BSG Vice-President for Hepatology, one other member of the BSG Executive, and 3 members of the BSG Liver Section. Two applications will be awarded the fellowship. The winners will be notified by the BSG office by 24th February 2024.

HCC - Improving liver cancer surveillance in the UK
This channel presents video extracts from a meeting on "Improving hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance" held in Birmingham UK, April 2024. The meeting was supported by the British Association for Study of Liver (BASL) and the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG). The aim of the meeting was discuss/showcase existing initiatives and new ideas for improving liver cancer surveillance in the UK.
Summer '24: The year for liver
