If you are training in luminal stenting i.e. oesophageal or duodenal stenting, you should have enough transferable skills to be able to do colonic stenting. You need to be a colonologist first, and to also have expertise in luminal stenting in other parts of the digestive track.

Dr Tony Tham
Dr Tham is a Consultant Gastroenterologist in the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK.
He is the President of the Ulster Society of Gastroenterology. He is in the BSG IBD guidelines development group. He is on the Governing Board of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and Chair of the ESGE Curriculum Working Group. He is on the Guidelines and Publications Committees of the World Gastroenterology Organisation. He was the President of the Irish Society of Gastroenterology. He was the Chair of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) Clinical Services and Standards Committee (previously Deputy Chair and Secretary). He was Quality Improvement lead and Guidelines lead of the BSG. He received the BSG President’s award for his contribution. He was the Chair of Ireland’s national clinical program for gastroenterology and hepatology clinical advisory group. He was the Head of the School of Medicine, Northern Ireland deanery. He was Vice Chair of the Specialist Advisory Committee for general internal medicine, Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board, UK.
He has more than 90 publications. He is the first author of a book entitled “Gastrointestinal Emergencies". He was the Guidelines Editor for Gut. He is on the editorial board of Gut and the International Editorial Board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
He has been an invited speaker to national society conferences in Spain, Portugal and Italy.
Professor Anjan Dhar
Professor Dhar is a Consultant Luminal Gastroenterologist at County Durham with research interests in IBD and Oesophageal Diseases. He is Chair of Education for the BSG and a Council Member. He has over 150 publications in peer reviewed journals.
