Endoscopy Workforce Education and Training
Endoscopy workforce education and training is multi-professional, mostly delivered within units by practice educators, mentors, peers, industry, assessors, and supervisors, is facilitated and developed by regional endoscopy academies and led by national organisations and programs such as those provided by the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and the Joint Advisory Group on Gastro-intestinal endoscopy (JAG).
The Developing Role of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Nurse in supporting people living with Complex IBD
IBD nursing evolved from an understanding that care was needed beyond outpatient appointments for people living with IBD. The complexity of care for people living with IBD is growing. IBD nurses need an in depth understanding of IBD and the medical and surgical treatments on offer.
Education, recognition, support and collaboration

Opportunities for Research in Gastroenterology and Hepatology Nursing
Research is an essential part of a modern, effective health service, and is vital to the provision of effectual and safe health and social care. The NHS is an excellent environment for clinical research because it enables access to health care regardless of patients’ background.
Gastrointestinal Nurse Education
Nurses need to revalidate every 3 years. Part of this process involves the need to prove that personal knowledge has been kept up to date. Thus, it is important to undertake regular continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure safety to practice, but with busy lives it can be difficult to prioritise time.
Nurses: An update on JETS Workforce
In 2017, the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) reviewed the existing endoscopy nurse training and competency frameworks. A universal process was created whereby the endoscopy workforce can be recognised for the knowledge, skills and practical expertise they hold. Several stakeholder meetings and review days were held in 2017, and the need for revision of existing programmes and standardisation of processes and e-portfolio content was agreed.
The BSG web team are looking for enthusiastic individuals to expand our current group of web article reviewers. This could be included as part of your CPD diary and could help enrich your own knowledge too. It is a rewarding process and allows us to support our members in their education. The articles are short but require professional review and constructive comments. The commitment will be sporadic but we do ask that you’re able to return the review in a timely fashion when requested. This is open to consultants, senior registrars (ST6 and above), specialist nurses or senior allied health professionals in Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology.
